United States : Dell takes over SonicWall [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dell has acquired firewall and security software company SonicWall. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter. Financial details of the deal were not revealed.

The company which is in a move to strengthen its software portfolio, Dell has been bolstering its software intellectual property and combining it with services and hardware. Acquisition of the SonicWall will be accretive to earnings in the second half.

John Swainson head of a new software unit said that Dell plans for detailed outlining of its software strategy during its next analyst meeting to be held in June. Swainson stated that Dell seeks to be well positioned in the fast growing parts of the software security business.

SonicWall deals in firewall software and unified security management applications and appliances (right). With this acquisition Dell will get access to 300,000 customers of SonicWall, which even has 130 patents. Software of SonicWall includes firewalls, remote access, backup and recovery, policy enforcement and a centralized management system for network administrators.
