Oceus Networks Lauds Congressional Action on Public Safety Interoperability Solution

RESTON, Va. --(Business Wire)--

The U.S. House of Representatives and Senate today approved legislation to extend payroll tax cuts, including major provisions to fund, build and operate an advanced public safety network, based on commercial standards in the 700 MHz spectrum.

"We applaud Congress for providing the long-awaited solution to the first responder's critical need for 21st century, interoperable communications," said Douglas C. Smith, President and CEO, Oceus Networks. "The agreement on the spectrum provisions in the tax extenders conference report - including the D Block - is a key achievement that can bring all first responders a public safety wireless network based on the same advanced technology that American consumers now have."

"Today's action by Congress paves the way for the kind of hghly-survivable, standards-based network that first responders require, particularly to provide uninterrupted, critical communications as part of disaster responses," Smith added. "As a U.S.-based technology provider, Oceus Networks is committed to this effort, through solutions such as our Xiphos family of products, which provides highly survivable 4G-based LTE (News - Alert) capabilities."
