Budget phone calls abroad firm Voiamo to list on Aim [Mail on Sunday (England)]
(Mail on Sunday (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) VOIAMO, a telecoms company that promises to slash the cost of using mobile phones overseas, plans to raise about Pounds 10 million by listing on the Alternative Investment Market next month.
Roaming charges are levied by foreign networks that carry calls and messages to the phones of those who have travelled outside the range of their home network.
Such charges are passed on to the customer and can lead to huge bills - a gigabyte of data can cost Pounds 3 in Britain but up to Pounds 3,000 in the US when roaming charges are applied.
Voiamo claims it can reduce the cost of roaming charges by up to 95 per cent. It offers customers a Sim card that provides dozens of local numbers in Europe, the US and Australia. Callers will be routed through local phone network providers via one of the numbers and charged at local rates.
'It is a global product, which allows you to act like a local,' said Voiamo executive chairman Nigel Bramwell, a former managing director of Carphone Group. 'Our aim is to roll this out to 30 countries over the next three years.' Jon Rees (c) 2011 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
