Whaleback Systems Rolls Out Free Phone Service

Oct 07, 2011 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Whaleback Systems, Inc., a provider of managed business communication services, marked its fifth year in supporting U.S. troops with free phone service.

As a sponsor of Pease Greeters, an organization that welcomes troops passing through Pease International Airport in Portsmouth, NH on their way to, or from Iraq, Afghanistan or any other areas of conflict in the world, Whaleback provides a permanent bank of CrystalBlue Managed Service phones that soldiers can use free of charge to call loved ones anywhere in the world.

"What started as a simple donation has really grown into a full-fledged program for us and we are very honored to be able to continually thank our troops in this way," said Karil Reibold, CEO of Whaleback. "We continue to receive such heartfelt gratitude from the soldiers and everyone involved that we intend to build on this." According to a release, the idea came to Whaleback and Pease Greeters in 2006 when a Marine's wife sent an emotional thank you message to Pease personnel who had lent the soldier a phone to call her as he passed through to Iraq. Initially Whaleback provided a few phones, and since that time has more than tripled the size of the system. The Whaleback phone bank has become a popular stop for the troops, with all phones lit up and in constant use after flights have arrived, and is now within a dedicated telephone area named Malinda's Room after the wife of Captain Smith, USMC.

Pease Greeters, established in early 2006 by a handful of members of the Seacoast Detachment, #394, Marine Corps League and the Pease Development Authority, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to welcome troops passing through Pease International Airport on their way to or from Afghanistan or Iraq, or any other areas of conflict in the world. Now with more than 1300 veteran members, Pease Greeters, with help of other local organizations, youth and the general public, greet in three phases - 1) hundreds of Greeters clapping and cheering, providing handshakes, hugs and expressions of "welcome home" and "thank you," while patriotic music plays in background. 2) refreshments served and donated by local companies, along with the use of telephone banks installed by Whaleback so that brave men and women may place phone calls free of charge to anywhere in the world, and 3) Closing ceremony -- with troops photographed so that each flight is added to Hero's Walk -- a hallway at Pease dedicated to troops who have passed through Pease, the Nations Colors presented, the singing of the National Anthem, a blessing from the Greeters Chaplain, a reading of the Star poem with stars from retired flags and the poem given to every soldier, and an offering "the shirt off our back" -- a signed Pease Greeter Sweatshirt presented to the commanding officer. At the close, the officer of the day salutes the troops with the words, "We, the old Warriors, salute you, the young Warriors."
