Centering text vertically in Word

Aug 12, 2010 (The Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Q: I know how to center text in Word horizontally by clicking the Center button in the toolbar. Is there a way to center text vertically on the page? A: Aligning text is a simple enough task. You just select the text and click the appropriate option for Align Text Left, Center, Align Text Right, or Justify. However, Word can align text vertically as well.

It's not a feature most of us would use every day. Perhaps you're creating a brochure, a sign, or a wedding invitation in which you want the page content to be centered vertically (top to bottom). You might try using blank lines to adjust the text, but it's never quite exact, and if you add or remove text, you have to play with the blank lines again to re-center the page's text.

To center a page in Word 2007 or 2010, do the following: 1. From anywhere on the page, click Page Layout.

2. In the Page Setup group, click the dialog box button (that tiny dimple in the corner of the Page Setup group).

3. Click the Layout tab.

4. In the Page section, click the down arrow to the right of Vertical Alignment and choose Center.

5. Click OK to finish.

To center a page in Word 2003, do the following: 1. From anywhere on the page, choose Page Setup from the File menu.

2. Click the Layout tab.

3. In the Page section, click the Vertical Alignment dropdown and choose Center Q. I don't own a laptop, so when I travel I must use the hotel's guest computer or a friend's. Is there an easy way to check my e-mail without having to know my ISP's webmail address? A. Yes, there is a website that offers travelers an easy way to see their e-mail from any computer around the world. Point your browser to http://www.mail2web.com. At the home screen, enter your e-mail address and your account password in the box provided. Mail2Web does the rest for you, and in a moment you will see your Inbox where you can send and receive email from your account. The best part? It's free.
