'Almost 90% of Swiss internet users has fixed broadband'

Feb 10, 2010 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- More than 70 percent (71%) of Swiss households have internet access, of which 89 percent uses fixed broadband services via either DSL or cable, according to a survey executed by M.I.S. Trend for the Swiss federal communications office Bakom. The survey also found that 6 percent of Swiss households is using dial-up for internet access and 2 percent is using mobile internet. The most important reason for choosing an internet connection is quality of service with 92 percent of the surveyed naming this as important, followed by information transparency for 90 percent and tariffs for 89 percent. The survey also found that Swiss households are loyal to their ISP, with two thirds still having the connection via their first ISP, while 25 percent has change ISP once since they have internet. Other findings include that 96 percent of Swiss internet households has accessed internet during the past three months with 75 percent using internet on a daily basis and 20 percent logging on at least once per week. The most used internet service is e-mail with 74 percent, followed by search for information by 64 percent and search for information about products and services with 64 percent. The survey also asked what speed is used for accessing internet and found that 34 percent is unaware of the internet speed, while 70 percent of the households that know their speed said to have a broadband connection between 2 Mbps and 10 Mbps. The remaining 30 percent is equally divided between less than 2 Mbps and more than 10 Mbps.
