Texas Instruments introduces WiLink 7.0 single-chip solution

(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Semiconductor company Texas Instruments Inc (TI) (NYSE:TXN) unveiled on Tuesday its WiLink 7.0 single-chip solution, an offering that integrates WLAN 802.11n, GPS, FM transmit/receive and Bluetooth technologies.

According to the company, the 65nm WiLink 7.0 solution reduces costs by 30%, reduces size by 50% and delivers improved coexistence performance as compared to today's existing solutions.

The solution features hardware mechanisms that cancel out board- and chip-level RF interference at the source to simplify design process, while enhanced WiFi/Bluetooth/Bluetooth Low Energy inter-core communication prioritises packet scheduling and supports more connections in parallel.

The high-performance GPS core features a multi-path resolution engine that combines with advanced algorithms to reduce interference impact and an on-chip position engine that simplifies integration with device host processor, while host-independent location buffering and geo-fencing features reduce host loading and power consumption.

The Bluetooth core offers dedicated audio processor system-on-chip, supports latest Bluetooth low-energy and Bluetooth 3.0 specifications and is extensible to support additional protocols, while the Wi-Fi core supports the soon-to be ratified WiFi Direct and Soft AP mode capabilities, as well as supporting 802.11 a/b/g/n capabilities.

In addition, the FM core offers increased output power for FM transmit that combined with a more sensitive FM receive delivers cleaner FM experience.

The WiLink 7.0 solution is currently sampling to OEMs. Devices using the solution are expected to enter the market by the end of 2010. No pricing details were disclosed.
