Tecore To Showcase Software-Defined 2G-3G-4G/LTE Core At Mobile World Congress

COLUMBIA, Md. --(Business Wire)-- Tecore Networks, a Maryland-based global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, today announced that it would showcase its iCore® all-IP software-defined core network capable of supporting 2G GSM and CDMA, 3G UMTS and 4G LTE on a range of scalable hardware platforms at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) in Barcelona, Hall 8, Stand 8C78 from February 15 to 18. With iCore, mobile operators will have the flexibility of running multiple standards on a single network, allowing them to maximize revenues from legacy services while rolling out next-generation applications. iCore is compliant with the 3GPP and 3GPP2 standards, and optionally provides a Radio Network Controller (RNC), enabling operators to use this platform with other vendors' radio access network equipment.

Mobile operators worldwide are facing challenging economic conditions, a spike in demand for broadband data, and uncertainty about the most effective network technology. iCore addresses these issues through: technology flexibility - the simultaneous operation of GSM, CDMA and UMTS on one all-IP platform, with the upgrade to LTE (News - Alert) available via software plug-ins; operators can offer multi-technology roaming to maximize revenue from visiting subscribers; software-defined network scalability - systems can be deployed for as few as 100 subscribers, and built out as the subscriber base grows; greater control of network profitability - operators can continue to reap revenues from 2G services (which are still used by the majority of subscribers) while fulfilling demand for next-generation devices and applications, and minimizing the expense of separate network elements.

iCore is built on a carrier-grade architecture that has been deployed in commercial and specialized networks worldwide. Based on customer demand and evolution of the standards, iCore now includes: All-IP communication and signaling including an IMS core Concurrent support for voice and data services for GSM, CDMA and SIP technology families, from common object code Complete 2G-3G-4G core network (UMSC, EPC, MSC (News - Alert)/VLR, HLR/HSS, AuC/AC, SMSC/MMSC, Prepaid IN) delivered on a single blade Optional integrated RNC Peer-to-peer IP switching, enabling tandem-free operations for signaling as well as transcoding-free operation for VoIP or RTP Carrier-grade Linux operating system, deployable on a range of hardware platforms including compact-PCI (News - Alert), microTCA and ATCA.

"Data and multimedia services are the focus of our industry, but we need to keep in mind that 2G services still account for 85 percent of mobile communications," said Jay Salkini, President and Chief Executive Officer, Tecore Networks. "Operators are looking for flexible and cost-effective ways to maintain and transition network technologies. iCore has been proven to meet these needs, through an all-IP architecture compliant with the most commercially successful standards, scalable from rural and remote installations to nationwide networks. The Tecore executive team looks forward to demonstrating the iCore value proposition at Mobile World Congress."
