Frontier Communications Employees in Pennsylvania and West Virginia Ratify Labor Contracts

Dec 14, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Frontier Communications announced it has received two contract ratifications with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) locals representing approximately 360 Frontier employees in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

CWA-represented employees in Frontier's Pennsylvania operations ratified the agreement on November 9, and IBEW-represented employees in Frontier's West Virginia operations ratified the agreement on October 29. The company and union bargaining committees worked together to address issues that were priorities for both parties: the competition in the telecommunications business, the challenging economic times, and the importance of hiring and retaining the best employees with competitive wages and benefits.

The Pennsylvania CWA Locals represent about 300 employees, including Technicians who serve customers throughout Eastern Pennsylvania and employees in a Wilkes-Barre Call Center who serve Frontier customers nationwide. The newly ratified contract expires in late 2012 and will help Frontier remain competitive and improve customer service while continuing to provide solid wages and benefits to its Pennsylvania employees.

IBEW Local 2035 represents 60 employees serving customers in the Charles Town, Romney, and Shepherdstown areas of West Virginia. The employees ratified a one-year contract extension that includes a wage increase and addresses employee and operational issues of importance to all citizens of West Virginia. As part of a company-wide expense reduction initiative due to the economic times, this contract settlement includes expense savings that avoided layoffs.
