(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Report: AMD ex-CEO said linked to Galleon caseLOS ANGELES (AP) _ Chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. is "thoroughly reviewing" published reports fingering former chairman and CEO Hector Ruiz as the AMD executive who gave confidential company information to a defendant in the Galleon Group insider trading case. "We are not aware of any allegation of criminal misconduct on the part of any current or former AMD employees, nor have any current or former AMD employees been charged with a crime," AMD said in a statement Tuesday. A spokesman for the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company declined to comment further.

Disney iPhone app makes photos the key to contentLOS ANGELES (AP) _ The Walt Disney Co. is releasing an iPhone application that rewards users for poking through the Disney.com Web site and could one day offer exclusive bonuses for activities such as shopping at Disney Stores. The free app, which debuts in the iTunes app store Wednesday, offers bonus animations to users who follow clues to take cell-phone pictures of characters from movies such as "Up," "G-Force," "Ratatouille," and "Wall-E" on the Web site.

Twitter user list favors Dems in Calif. gov raceSACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) _ When people sign up for Twitter, the popular social-networking site presents a list of suggested users to follow, driving significant traffic to sports figures, celebrities, politicians and other prominent posters. In California, the list has attracted the attention of political watchdogs because it apparently favors Democrats over Republicans in next year's race for governor. That raises questions about whether Twitter should change its policy at a time when the site is catching on as a popular recruiting tool for candidates.

Los Angeles OKs plan to use Google Web servicesLOS ANGELES (AP) _ City Council members tentatively approved a multimillion-dollar proposal Tuesday to tap Google Inc. for government e-mail and other Internet services, a boon for the Web giant as it seeks to wrest market share for office software from rival Microsoft Corp. The Council voted unanimously for the $7.2 million deal with contractor Computer Sciences Corp. to replace many city computer systems with the so-called Google Apps services.

Music service Lala heralds MP3-killing iPhone appLOS ANGELES (AP) _ Online music retailer Lala is preparing to launch an iPhone application that its co-founder says paves the way for the end of downloading songs in the MP3 format. The app allows users to buy the right to stream songs from a digital locker forever for just 10 cents each. The song quality is lower than what Apple Inc.'s iTunes offers, but "intelligent caching" lets the tracks load and play in seconds, with playback possible even outside of cell phone coverage.

DreamWorks beats 3Q estimates with `MvA' on videoLOS ANGELES (AP) _ DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. shot past analyst estimates in releasing third-quarter earnings Tuesday, saying its only release this year, "Monsters vs. Aliens," is off to a strong start in the home video market. Analysts have been watching for clues as to how the beleaguered home video market is faring amid the recession. Industrywide, U.S. sales of packaged discs, including DVDs and Blu-ray discs, have fallen nearly 14 percent in the quarter, compared with the year-ago period.

Travel book goes mobile with scannable QR codeWASHINGTON (AP) _ Many travelers still rely on comprehensive printed guidebooks for tourism information. But travelers are also increasingly using mobile technology to plan a trip or find their way around. Now a technology called QR codes, for Quick Response, offers a way to forge a functional relationship between your guidebook and your smart phone. The codes are already big in Japan, but relatively unknown in the U.S.

Google expands availability of its free voice mailSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Google Inc. wants to answer your mobile phone calls when you can't or just don't want to talk. In its latest bid to become a bigger player in telecommunications, the Internet search leader is giving people a chance to have its free voice mail service answer calls to their cell phones. The offering was introduced Tuesday.

Metallica debuts finger-tapping app in iPhoneLOS ANGELES (AP) _ Headbangers will have a reason to steady their gaze a bit starting Tuesday, when rock band Metallica makes its way onto iPhones with a finger-tapping music app called "Tap Tap Revenge: Metallica." In the game, players tap areas on the screen in time with the music, much like players strum or drum plastic instruments in video games such as "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero," except on a smaller scale.

IAC reports 3Q profit but ad revenue still slipsSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ IAC/InterActiveCorp, which runs Match.com, Ask.com and other Web sites, said Tuesday that asset sales helped it profit in the third quarter while advertising revenue continued to slump. The results for IAC, which is led by media mogul Barry Diller, come after other Internet companies indicated in their third-quarter reports that the online advertising market remains uneven. Google Inc. reported a 7 percent increase in revenue in the period, but Yahoo Inc. said its revenue dropped 12 percent.
