Finisar First to Demonstrate 40 Gigabit Ethernet LR4 CFP Transceiver Over 10 km of Optical Fiber at ECOC
(Market Wire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SUNNYVALE, CA and VIENNA, AUSTRIA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 09/21/09 --
(ECOC) -- Dedicated to
delivering the innovation that drives optical communication networks,
Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR) today announced that it will demonstrate
several new technologies and products at ECOC. These demonstrations include
an operational 40 Gigabit Ethernet LR4 CFP optical transceiver transmitting
data over 10 km of optical fiber. Another demonstration shows the
interoperability of 10 Gb/s CML(TM)-based XFP with EML-based XFP
transceivers. In addition, Finisar will debut its Edge Wavelength
Processor (EWP) 1x2 Wavelength Selective Switch and WaveShaper S-Series
programmable processors. With these demonstrations, Finisar continues to
lead the optics industry by providing high-performance and reliable
products for datacom and telecom applications. Demonstrations will take
place in Finisar's booth #640 at ECOC, the European Conference on Optical
Communications, taking place in Vienna, September 21-23, 2009.
40GE CFP Optical Transceiver
Highlighting Finisar's presence at ECOC will be the world's first public
demonstration of an operational 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40GE) module in the
new pluggable CFP form factor. The demonstration will consist of a working
prototype of a 40GE LR4 CFP optical transceiver module, transmitting
Ethernet traffic error-free over 10 km of single mode fiber. Finisar's
40GE LR4 complies with the 40GBASE-LR4 optical interface as defined in the
IEEE P802.3ba standard, internally multiplexing four CWDM wavelengths
running at 10.3 Gb/s each. The CFP form factor is essential for
next-generation Ethernet networks as it is currently the only pluggable
form factor capable of supporting this interface for various datacom and
telecom applications, including enterprise switches, router to transport
links, and test equipment connectivity. The CFP module will be
demonstrated using EXFO's FTB-85100G 40G/100G Ethernet Tester. In addition,
EXFO will also demonstrate this tester at their booth using Finisar's SR4
version of the 40 GE CFP modules. Visit EXFO booth #711 for more
information.
10 Gb/s CML(TM)-based XFP Transceiver
Finisar will also be demonstrating full interoperability between 10 Gb/s
CML(TM)-based DWDM XFPs and EML-based DWDM XFPs over 100 km of optical
fiber. Compared to EML solutions, CML(TM) XFPs offer improved OSNR
performance and a broader dispersion tolerance range of up to +3200ps/nm
without the use of dispersion compensation modules. These transceivers
have an inherently high SBS (stimulated Brillouin scattering) threshold and
support 50 GHz spacing for both ITU C-band and L-band channel plans.
CML(TM) XFP's are capable of supporting narrow-tunability to reduce supply
chain complexity. Finisar will begin production of CML(TM)-based DWDM XFPs
by the end of 2009.
Edge Wavelength Processors (EWP) and WaveShaper S-Series Optical
Instrumentation
Finisar will showcase two new optical devices based on its innovative
Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) technology. Attendees will be able to see
how the full-featured Edge Wavelength Processor 1x2 Wavelength Selective
Switch (WSS) provides the same flexible programmability and reliability as
Finisar's existing Dynamic Wavelength Processors (DWP). Its small size and
low power consumption make it ideal for applications at the network edge.
Also on display will be Finisar's WaveShaper S-Series of Fully Programmable
Optical Processors for optical R&D and production test of 40 and 100 Gbps
systems. The WaveShaper's unique ability to generate arbitrary filter
transfer functions through control of both amplitude and phase
characteristics makes it ideal for system and component testing, optical
pulse shaping and control, and researching high-speed optical technologies.
"Our focus on developing key technologies, such as our CML(TM) and patented
LCoS optical engine, enables Finisar to bring to market innovative products
that increase performance, ensure reliability, and enable altogether new
applications," said Rafik Ward, Vice President of Marketing at Finisar.
"Combined with our high volume manufacturing capabilities, this means that
we can bring new technologies to market wrapped in an attractive value
proposition."
Finisar will also have on display equipment from its wide portfolio of
optical products, including its latest transceivers/transponders, WSS
ROADMs, advanced optical components, passive devices and active optical
cables.
