At the conference, Dr. Winkler will also present his paper "The Properties of Subjective Ratings in Video Quality Experiments" during session 5 on Subjective Quality Assessment and Verification II.

The panel is chaired by Dr. Fernando Pereira from the Instituto Superior Técnico and Instituto de Telecomunicações, Lisbon, Portugal. Co-panelists include Dr. Alan Bovik from the University of Texas, Dr. Sebastian Möller from Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert) Labs and Dr. Gary Sullivan from Microsoft.

Additionally, in his presentation, Dr. Winkler will discuss certain practical aspects of subjective ratings that are essential to the design of efficient experiments. In particular, the talk will focus on the distribution and variability of subjective ratings, the effects of discrete rating scales and the number of subjects needed.


Dr. Winkler has published more than 50 papers on perceptual quality measurement and is the author of the book, "Digital Video Quality." He was the chief scientist and co-founder of Genista Corporation, a provider of quality assurance solutions for IPTV (News - Alert) and mobile media and has held assistant professor positions at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. He is a member of the technical program committee for QoMEX.
