Tonga to trial One Laptop per Child


Feb 19, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Tonga is to trial the One Lap Top Per Child (OLPC), reports Radio Tonga.

Regional director for Oceania's One Laptop Per Child, Michael Hutak said the programme is a global non profit organisation that aims to bring revolutionized education for children in developing countries in the Pacific.

Mr Hutak said five pacific Islands Forum Countries are being trialled for the project - Niue, Nauru, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Niue was the first country in the world to achieve 100 percent coverage.




Mr Hutak said the laptops are designed for children ages 6 - 12 and provides applications that teach children how to learn music, mathematics, arts and other subjects.


They are also able to share this information and what they know with other children on the same software.
