Procrastinating Pittsburgh DE will visit WVU's campus today

(The Dominion Post in Morgantown (WV) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 6--The WVU football team had 24 recruits sign letters-of-intent Wednesday, but if all goes well this weekend, the Mountaineers could sign one more.

Will Clarke, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end from Pittsburgh's Allderdice High School, will take an official visit to Morgantown this weekend, Allderdice head coach Don Schmidt confirmed Thursday.

Clarke committed to Pittsburgh in August, but did not sign a letterof-intent on national signing day.

Instead, at his father's urging, Clarke is exploring all his options before he makes a final decision.

"Will is very close to his family, and his father is very involved in helping him make this decision," Schmidt said.

According to the coach, Clarke attracted the attention of both WVU and Pittsburgh's head coaches when he worked out at both teams' football camps this past summer.

WVU head coach Bill Stewart "called me about three times to say they'll offer him," Schmidt said. "But at the time he was still more comfortable with Pitt."

Clarke visited and then gave a verbal commitment to Pitt, but his parents suggested he take a look at other schools. The defensive end's lineup of official visits was pushed back because he was late taking his SATs.

"His dad said he didn't care about signing day, he wanted Will to take all his visits," Schmidt said.

So Clarke visited Akron this week, and will be in Morgantown tonight and will take in the Mountaineers' men's basketball game against Providence on Saturday.

"By Sunday or Monday, we'll know," Schmidt said. "It's between Akron, WVU and Pitt, but [Clarke is] leaning more toward WVU and Pitt."

Stewart said Wednesday that the Mountaineers have enough scholarships available to take on a couple more players.
