The southeastern Chinese province of Jiangxi plans to additionally build 500 kilometers railways in the province, in response to the Chinese central government's huge program to construct 20,000 kilometers railways, part of its efforts to expand the nation's domestic demand.

Under the province's planned railway network blueprint, it will have a railway length of 3,500 kilometers in total by 2012, and 4,000 kilometers by 2015. And by 2020, its electrized railway coverage will reach more than 80%, it will have over 960 kilometers railways with a speed of 200 kilometers an hour, and its railway network will cover over 90% of its counties, cities, and tourist sites.

In addition, the province will rebuild some railway stations in its cities such as Nanchang and Jiujiang. The province has a land area of 166,900 square kilometers and a population of 43.39 million in all.
