Ericsson and Intel form mobile internet alliance

Oct 21, 2008 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
Ericsson has collaborated with Intel to extend its 3G mobile broadband technology for notebooks and pocket devices.

Ericsson will use Intel's next-generation Moorestown platform and Moblin-based Linux operating systems on both WCDMA/HSPA and GSM/EDGE networks. Moorestown includes High Speed Packet Access for mobile internet, entertainment and media, connected GPS navigation, online gaming, social networking, and data communications.

Anand Chandrasekher, senior vice president and general manager of Ultra Mobility Group at Intel, said: "The high performance, low power, and compatibility of Intel architecture, coupled with Ericsson's 3G mobile technologies, represents one of the ways to accelerate the global adoption of a new breed of mobile internet devices that provide people with more powerful, always connected internet-based experiences."

HSPA is the world's most widely deployed 3G mobile broadband technology with 221 commercially deployed networks serving 60 million subscribers and 4 million new subscribers every month.
