Covad Wireless Partners With IDT Spectrum to Provide Enterprise-Class Wireless Broadband in Bay Area

SAN JOSE, Calif. & NEWARK, N.J. --(Business Wire)-- Covad Communications Group Inc. (AMEX:DVW), a leading national provider of integrated voice and data communications, and IDT Spectrum, a division of IDT Corporation (NYSE: IDT, IDT.C), announced today that Covad Wireless will deploy new enterprise-class wireless Ethernet services in the San Francisco Bay Area over IDT's licensed 28-31 GHz Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS) spectrum.

LMDS is a point-to-multipoint wireless technology that provides access speeds up to 20 Mbps with high reliability and low latency. It offers a lower-cost alternative to existing point-to-point offerings, allowing Covad Wireless to grow its business in the Bay Area faster and more cost-effectively. Covad already provides services using LMDS spectrum in its greater Los Angeles service area.

IDT Spectrum President Michael Rapaport said, "We are excited to partner with Covad Wireless to provide enhanced broadband wireless communications to Bay Area businesses. This collaboration is particularly exciting at a time when we are continuing to see increased demand by carriers for bandwidth to support new applications of broadband wireless."

David McMorrow, General Manager of Covad Wireless, added, "The partnership with IDT Spectrum will allow us to improve operational efficiency by offering a more scalable broadband alternative that is highly reliable and priced competitively. It will also lead to accelerated installation times, improving the overall experience for our customers."

Covad Wireless provides a business-class, cost-effective alternative to traditional telecom providers that is focused on the needs of small and medium businesses. As Covad deploys the new broadband wireless access service in a service area ranging from San Francisco and Oakland down to San Jose, these businesses, along with Covad's enterprise-class customers, will have the option to upgrade to a versatile suite of high-speed, Ethernet-based solutions that combines the power, reach, performance, and scalability of IDT's licensed spectrum with the reliability and security of Covad Wireless' extensive network.

Covad Wireless operates California's largest fixed broadband wireless network focused on serving business customers. Its solutions range from T1 replacement to high-capacity service with data speeds of up to 100 Mbps. Covad Wireless serves over 4,000 small and medium-sized businesses in the San Francisco Bay Area, the greater Los Angeles area, Chicago, and Las Vegas.
