Government Awards $4B In Medicare IT Contracts

September 19, 2007 (FinancialWire) The US government has awarded
contracts worth up to $4 billion to 16 companies including SAIC (NYSE:
SAI) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) to overhaul Medicare s computer
systems.
Other companies in the sector include ActivIdentity Corp. (NASDAQ:
ACTI), Zebra Technologies (NASDAQ: ZBRA), and Unisys Corp. (NYSE: UIS).
According to contract terms the agencies will develop, design, and
maintain new computers, infrastructure, and software for use by
Medicare agency staffers. Other contract recipients included IBM (NYSE:
IBM), Computer Sciences, and a host of smaller private companies.
The project is part of the federal government s enterprise system
development, which is meant to modernize the entire health care
process.
