Occam Networks to Offer Aware Inc.'s Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform With Its BLC 6000 Products

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Occam Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:OCNW), a leading supplier of innovative Ethernet and IP-based broadband loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies, announced today it will begin reselling Aware's Dr. DSL(R) Line Diagnostics Platform. Leveraging its BLC 6000 product line the solution enables telecommunications operators to pre-qualify, provision, baseline and troubleshoot copper lines for both narrowband and broadband services, including POTS, IPTV and advanced triple-play services over copper loops. Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ:AWRE) is a leading supplier of broadband technology.

Aware's Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform integrates seamlessly with Occam's BLC equipment, and when used together, offers service providers a complete system for analysis and diagnostics of both traditional POTS services and advanced DSL next-generation services. With this system, Occam's BLC performs the physical tests required to retrieve the raw data and Aware's server-based application and modeling software collects and interprets the raw data and presents the diagnostic information to the end user.

"The addition of Aware's Dr. DSL Line Diagnostic Platform further enhances the power of the BLC platform by reducing the operating expenditures required by carriers to baseline, troubleshoot and maintain their copper-based infrastructure," said Russ Sharer, vice president of marketing at Occam Networks. "Eliminating truck rolls will significantly cut operators' costs in managing their networks and rolling out these new advanced services."

In an early deployment of the combined Occam and Aware solution, Bledsoe Telephone Cooperative, an independent operating company in Tennessee, reported significantly improved efficiencies identifying and addressing trouble spots in its network as it turned up its IPTV-over-DSL services.

"We were eager to increase our IPTV penetration, but the cost of testing and identifying trouble spots, such as bridged taps, crosstalk and wideband noise in our copper network made this goal difficult and far too expensive and time consuming," said Greg Anderson, general manager of Bledsoe Telephone Cooperative. "We have been using Occam's BLCs for quite some time, and when we learned that Aware's Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform in conjunction with Occam's BLC could offer us the ability to test the lines for problem spots, offer specific problem resolution without a truck roll, and proactively target specific customers for higher-bandwidth services, we knew we had found the ideal solution."

"IOCs, ILECs and CLECs are at the forefront of IPTV adoption, and as advanced services are significantly more sensitive to line imperfections, an easy-to-use, cost-effective diagnostics solution is needed to pre-qualify the lines and manage the network post-install," added Peter LeBlanc, vice president of marketing of Aware, Inc. "The Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform collects and interprets raw diagnostic data provided by Occam's BLC 6000, enabling the provider to verify the level of service that could reasonably be achieved for a subscriber prior to turn-up."
