Personal Fit Weight Loss Guide: Americans Reach Historical Proportions

DALLAS --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 22, 2006 -- Never before in history have so many high calorie foods been so widely available and so inexpensive. Is it surprising, then, that over 300,000 Americans per year die from overweight related conditions per year?

The National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, the American Heart Association, and the American Medical Association all tell us that eating more than we need is leading us into an unprecedented national trend of being overweight. We are heavier on the average than we have ever been, and worse, our children are heavier too, particularly among the tallest, fastest-growing young children.

What does being overweight mean to our health overall? In a report published in the July 5 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, a study of 90,000 women over 50 years old showed that being overweight raised the risk for mortality by 25% to 75%, depending on how overweight the individual was. This connection between the need for weight loss and such things as coronary heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension, to name a few of the worst, is starting to sound serious isn't it? Let's look at those numbers again -- 25 to 75 women out of each 100 in the study group died earlier than the rest of the women in the group who had low body mass indexes.

What to do? Be informed. The Internet is a great source of information in spite of offering galaxies of resources for any one subject. A search for "weight loss" on Google results in around 170 million returns, so use a consolidator that can separate the web-hype from the useful information like http://Personal-Fit-Weight-Loss-Guide.com. Go directly to 'how to' and skip the 'overpriced pills with mythic powers.'
