Koike, resuming her duties, says she 'worked too hard'+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, April 17_(Kyodo) _ Environment Minister Yuriko Koike, who resumed her official duties Monday after recovering from acute pneumonia, said she "worked too hard" as women could not be recognized in the political community unless they work 10 times more than men.

"Cherry blossoms at the Foreign Ministry have already turned into leaves, and it made me feel that I have been absent for a long time. I want to make a full comeback by gradually getting used to work," she told reporters on arriving at the building in Tokyo's Kasumigaseki district that houses the Environment Ministry.

Resuming her official duties, the 53-year-old Koike had a two-hour meeting with ministry officials to discuss "Cool Biz," a governmental campaign from late May to encourage people to dress more casually to help cut down on power consumption for air conditioning during summertime, according to government officials.

Shigeru Sumitani, administrative vice minister at the ministry, said, "Four more bills are pending for deliberation at the Diet and a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of Minamata disease is also coming up. We will deal with each of them under the supervision of the minister."

Koike was taken to a hospital on March 29 after developing high fever and was hospitalized until Friday to receive treatment for pneumonia.
