TowerStream, Vonage Form Alliance: Combine Voice, Broadband

TowerStream and Vonage today announce they have combined their services to offer VoIP over fixed wireless broadband, providing businesses with an alternative to existing phone companies for voice and broadband in a single offering.

TowerStream, a fixed wireless Internet provider, and Vonage have combined their services to offer VoIP over fixed wireless broadband. The alliance, announced today, has Vonage Marketing offering its service to TowerStream's customers. Vonage Marketing is a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., one of North America's leading broadband telephony companies.

Through the alliance, TowerStream will offer businesses an alternative to the existing phone companies for both voice and broadband in one offering. According to the announcement, customers in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston and Newport, R.I. areas will be able to choose Vonage's small-business VoIP solutions with predictable flat-rate billing, as well as low international rates and advanced features.

Both companies strategically present themselves as alternatives to legacy telephone networks, and the combination of the two companies' services aims to offer increased flexibility, reliable performance and cost savings to enhance the productivity of businesses of all sizes. The implementation of the combined service, according to both companies, takes only a matter of days, as opposed to weeks or months.

"This collaboration will serve as the clearest example of the symbiotic relationship between VoIP and wireless broadband over the last mile," said Jeff Thompson, COO of TowerStream, in a company statement.

TowerStream's pre-WiMAX service is designed to offer a flexible alternative to the integrated T1s that businesses use today. TowerStream enables businesses to configure their Internet traffic to ensure VoIP calls are always given priority.
