Firetide Announces HotPort High Performance Mesh Network in Kiryu City, Japan

LOS GATOS, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Firetide, Inc., a leader in wireless mesh networking, today announced an international Beta customer for their new HotPort(TM) high performance mesh network. The e-Jikei project, established by Gunma University for improving community security, will install an outdoor HotPort high performance video mesh network with surveillance cameras for visitor inspection and intruder detection at parks in Kiryu City, Gunma prefecture, Japan.
Internet based digital cameras will be installed at entrance gates of parks and outdoor recreation facilities in Kiryu City, with video monitoring and motion detection systems operating on PCs in the administration office. The connections between the surveillance cameras and PCs will be through a HotPort wireless mesh network.
"There are many trees between the entrance gates and the office, so previous wireless trials had been unsuccessful. We experienced heavy packet losses and degradation of video frame ratio," said Dr. Yoshiura, vice chair of e-Jikei committee. "By installing a Firetide HotPort mesh network which can circumvent these obstacles, we expect those problems will be easily solved and the actual deployment will be accelerated significantly."
"The applications for video meshes, such as Gunma University's e-Jikei network, are rapidly growing," said Bo Larsson, CEO of Firetide. "Customers require outdoor deployments that can be easily set up and re-configured, yet at the same time provide industrial strength bandwidth and throughput necessary for high quality video streams."
Firetide recently announced HotPort beta customer deployments in the United States including Culver City California's Wi-Fi and video mesh in city offices, a T1 replacement between buildings at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh North Carolina, and an outdoor video surveillance network at the State Fair of Texas.
HotPort High Performance Mesh Network
The HotPort mesh network is a high performance wireless mesh backbone that supports multiple applications and services, including those that require extra capacity and fast throughput. It is designed especially for high-bandwidth/low latency applications such as video networks, voice over IP services, and metro-scale Wi-Fi HotZones. The self-configuring, self-healing mesh network scales quickly and easily, resulting in a powerful and reliable wireless network.
The HotPort system includes both indoor and outdoor mesh nodes, HotView(TM) mesh management software, and advanced networking features including VLAN capability, traffic prioritization, network gateway interconnects, and remote management.
HotPort networks are ideal for environments such as hotels, airports, universities, municipalities, warehouses, and other campus environments where structured wiring such as Ethernet or fiber cabling is too difficult or costly to install.
Firetide products are sold through channel partners including distributors, value added resellers (VARs), and systems integrators. For more information about HotPort products, please visit http://www.firetide.com/.
