Massachusetts Highway Department Standardizes on Bentley for Right-of-Way Management; Five State Transportation Departments Now Use Bentley ROW Technology

EXTON, Pa. --(Business Wire)-- May 11, 2004 -- Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that the Massachusetts Highway Department (MassHighway) is creating a statewide right-of-way information management system based on Bentley technology.

To acquire land for highway projects, departments such as MassHighway's Right of Way Bureau must execute a complex process involving a mix of critical information sets. Right-of-way departments must map out the properties to be acquired, appraise the properties' value, manage the legal process of acquiring the land, help relocate any residents or businesses on the property, and sell or lease excess land.

MassHighway's new solution organizes all property information into a single electronic case folder for each land parcel. Professionals in each phase of the right-of-way process enter and retrieve information from the folder through a standard Web browser. They can also create reports from the folders, such as summaries of right-of-way costs associated with highway projects. The new system will streamline workflow, reduce labor-intensive paperwork, and make up-to-date information quickly and widely available.

MassHighway's system will include Bentley ProjectWise, the company's flagship collaboration server, which can manage property-related files in a variety of formats such as DGN, Adobe PDF, DWG, and Microsoft Office formats. Users will be able to view and print files such as scanned maps, photographs, and text documents through the MassHighway system's Web interface.

Bentley is providing full integration and implementation services, training, and technical support to MassHighway. As more states move toward automating land acquisition processes, five U.S. departments of transportation have chosen to standardize their right-of-way processes using Bentley technology.
