ISC2 Partners with NECTEC to Offer Information Security Certification in Thailand; First Local Examination to Be Held in July 2004

BANGKOK, Thailand & VIENNA, Va. --(Business Wire)-- June 14, 2004 -- The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2(R), the non-profit international leader in its 15th year of training, qualifying and certifying information security professionals worldwide, today announced a partnership with NECTEC -- National Electronics and Computer Technology Center, Thailand -- to offer information security certification examinations to candidates in Thailand. The first Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP(R)) local examination will be held in July 2004 in Bangkok.

(ISC)2 offers the CISSP, considered the Gold Standard(SM) of certifications for top information security professionals worldwide, and the Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP(R)) for cyber security professionals implementing security policy.

NECTEC is an organization under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Science and Technology in Thailand. NECTEC is responsible for the development of Information Technology in Thailand. Its mission is to conduct and support research, development, design and engineering in electronic, computing, telecommunication, and information (ECTI) technologies, transfer technologies to industries and develop human resources for ECTI technologies, as well as create a physical infrastructure related to technology development and relevant policies. NECTEC is also the Thai Computer Emergency Response Team, called "ThaiCERT," which was set up to be responsible for incident response, advisory, security audit and public awareness in Thailand.

"This partnership with NECTEC demonstrates (ISC)2's commitment to the Thailand government's initiative to provide the IT industry with an international standard for information security," said Chester Soong, CISSP, director of certification for (ISC)2 Asia Pacific. "(ISC)2 will continue to bring its CISSP and SSCP educational seminars and exams and a range of other career development and professional growth opportunities to the Asian information security community."

"NECTEC is dedicated to enhancing the competitiveness of the electronics, computing, telecommunications and information (ECTI) industries, and providing the opportunity for the information security workforce in Thailand to obtain the internationally recognized CISSP certification," said Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool, director of NECTEC Thailand. "We embrace the comprehensive, rigorous and vendor-neutral standards of (ISC)2's certifications which meet our requirements for maintaining the highest standards in the information security industry."

The CISSP credential provides independent and objective validation of professional expertise and knowledge within the information security industry. The certification is acquired through a combination of four years practical work experience, formal education and a rigorous exam based on the CBK(R), a comprehensive compendium of international information security best practices developed and maintained by (ISC)2. Candidates must also be endorsed by an existing CISSP or equivalent professional. The SSCP is tailored for information systems security practitioners implementing security policy and requires at least one year of experience in a CBK domain. Both certifications require continuing education credits and adherence to the (ISC)2 Code of Ethics.
