Daqing Yushulin Oilfield Increases Efficiency With Motorola's Canopy(TM) Wireless Broadband System

BEIJING, June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc. announced that Daqing Yushulin Oilfield Development Limited selected its Canopy wireless broadband solution to provide high-speed data connectivity between its oil drilling sites and data center 18 kilometers away in the Heilongjiang Province in northern China.
For the company, Motorola's Canopy solution, which was initially deployed in the first quarter this year, will increase data transmission efficiency at less than the cost of other high-speed wireless Internet solutions. The Canopy wireless broadband equipment also can be easily packed and moved to other locations when the crews relocate to new drilling sites.
"The drilling sites and other work places are located miles from the central office. We needed an easy and cost-effective solution to transmit oil sample testing data from the remote sites. It is expensive and time consuming to build fixed fiber networks to send data between our oilfields and data center, and maintenance can be difficult. However, the Canopy solution offered us a mobile, easy-to-deploy and cost-effective solution," said Mr. Liu Dongxu, manager of information development, Daqing Yushulin Oilfeild.
Additionally, for its oil field employees, the Motorola solution allows crews who are in the oil fields for several days to keep in touch with the outside world via the Internet, and provide access to movies and other entertainment via the Canopy-enabled communications system.
How It Works ...
Daqing Yushulin Oilfield deployed three 5.8 GigaHertz Canopy access points, which are used to distribute data and video services to eight oil drilling locations.
In addition, a Canopy backhaul unit provides an Internet feed to remote locations, connecting sites that are more than 16 kilometers away from the data center.
Besides the Daqing Yushulin Oilfields deployment, "We are seeing many types of applications of Motorola's wireless broadband products that are benefiting a wide range of industries throughout China," said Jim Zhang, managing director of InfoExcite, a Motorola Canopy distributor in China.
Motorola's Canopy solution was introduced to China more than a year ago and it has undergone all the testing and commercial trials required by the Ministry of Information Industry (MII).
"Since receiving China's MII regulatory certification for Motorola's wireless broadband equipment, six telecommunications carriers, a large number of enterprises and several nationwide Internet service providers are enjoying the benefits that Canopy's high-speed wireless data solution offers," said Dennis Stipati, director of sales for Motorola's Canopy Wireless Broadband group in Asia, Europe, Middle East and the Africa. "We foresee great potential in China's wireless broadband market with excellent products and full service support from our strong internal and external channel partners and distributors."
