Mapesbury Selects Birdstep IP Zone Management Software Platform For Wi-Fi Rollout

Mapesbury Communications Ltd and Birdstep Technology ASA announced that Mapesbury has selected Birdstep’s IP Zone management software platform for the UK-wide rollout of MCom’s Wi-Fi service offering. Available in Q4, the partnership provides MCom with a complete Wi-Fi management solution that is scalable and flexible to handle future growth. The solution will power T-Mobile WLAN service at Texaco service stations in the UK.

By using a wirelessly enabled laptop, users will be able to connect to the Internet and their corporate network to read and respond to emails or download presentations, just as they would in the office.

The service is planned to be available in a significant number of Texaco service stations, mostly located on A-roads throughout the UK, in the coming months.

Customers will be able to access the service by driving in to any Texaco forecourt where the T-Mobile HotSpot service is available, parking in a dedicated bay and logging in to their corporate network.

Magnus Kelly, MCom’s Managing Director commented, “We have chosen Birdstep’s solution because it is simple to deploy, with a strong and flexible platform offering. This solution will permit us to offer secure Internet access to our partners in a flexible way. We are delighted to partner with one of the industry's leading Wi-Fi platform providers. Working with Birdstep accelerates MCom’s rollout of meaningful Wi-Fi enabled locations.”

Birdstep Wireless Access Software Portfolio consists of the Birdstep IP Zone Server access controller for secure access and authentication, the Nomadic Portal for enabling local free and billable services and device-independent publication of local information by means of XML structured content, and the Birdstep IP Zone Server backend server for implementing multiple billing methods. The solution supports high-speed access to information and services for users of PDAs and laptops. Secure and continuous connectivity between WLAN Zones and GSM/GPRS networks can be achieved by means of the integrated support for Mobile IP.

”Birdstep is pleased to be able to provide our wireless access control platform to MCom to provide secure access for its partners,” said Jorgen Bredesen, CEO of Birdstep Technology.
