ScanSource to Acquire Distributor Algol Europe

Williamsville, N.Y.-based electronic security specialist ScanSource, Inc., reportedly plans to acquire Cologne, Germany-based Algol Europe, a value-added distributor specializing in convergence and communications solutions.

In an agreement signed on Nov. 3, Algol will merge into ScanSource (News - Alert) Communications Europe and will operate as ScanSource Communications GMBH. Managing Director of Algol, Marianne Nickenig, will now report to Xavier Cartiaux, President of ScanSource Europe.

Algol has acted as a distributor of infrastructure, voice, network security, and video solutions from clients including 3Com, Avaya, APC, Extreme Networks, Juniper Networks, and Plantronics (News - Alert), among others. The AlgolCOLLEGE training centre has also provided resellers with value-added services, such as technical and pre-sale support, design, trainings and certifications. Established in 1997, the company clocked revenue of 46 million Euros last year.

Algol Europe has been named best certified 3Com (News - Alert) partner, largest Extreme Networks distributor in EMEA, largest Extreme Networks training partner worldwide, and 2008 Avaya Distributor of the Year.

"Following on our acquisition of UK-based MTV Telecom in April 2008, Algol Europe is an integral step in our strategy to become the primary source for European resellers looking to deliver the industry's leading communications solutions wrapped with the value-added services they need to grow their business," said Xavier Cartiaux, president, ScanSource Europe, in a statement. "I'm looking forward to working with the Algol management team, including Marianne and Guido Nickenig, to further invest in programs, people and financial resources to expand the market for communications solutions."

A unit of international specialty technology distributor ScanSource, Inc., ScanSource Security is an independent, value-added wholesale distributor of Identification, physical security and wireless infrastructure products. Recently the company signed an agreement with Video Mount Products to distribute its range of mounting systems and accessories.
