Compiere Expands Open Source ERP Solution with New Enhancements

August 14, 2008

Compiere, specializing in open source business solutions, has started shipping Compiere 3.1, an update of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) product line.

The new version includes 400 new business analyses, functional and technical enhancements. It will provide global partners and customers with an easy to deploy, adaptable open source business solution which can reduce acquisition and deployment costs compared to proprietary technology.

“Compiere’s continued commitment to delivering robust open source ERP applications on a modern technology platform is evident in the significant improvements we deliver in Compiere 3.1,” said Don Klaiss, president and CEO of Compiere. “These improvements are a result of working directly with our customers and our expertise in building world-class open source applications that are flexible, adaptable, and easy to customize and upgrade.”

Compiere 3.1 offers customers the ability to securely analyze business data making use of third-party reporting and analysis tools. The Business View Layer helps end-users and report designers gain access to ERP data via Compiere’s application-level security controls. Compiere 3.1 comes with pre-defined business views which include customers, vendors, product, sales order, invoice and shipment data.

Customers will be able to add additional secured business views by themselves. The Compiere Business View Layer integrates with open source and other analysis and reporting tools like Jasper Reports, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Excel and Pentaho Business Intelligence Suite.

The new functionality in this version enhances global financial management, purchasing, materials management, manufacturing, order management, sales and service application suite. The manufacturing capabilities include multi-level bill of materials, work-in-process tracking and costing, work order transactions and seamless integration with existing materials management, purchasing, sales order management and financial systems.

Other customer-driven improvements include support for user-defined payment schedules and dates, granular control over definition and processing of invoice batches, five levels of precision in defining inventory locators in warehouses, costing controls with new products and hypertext data type for integration with document management systems.
Compiere is compatible with new database, middleware and browser technology offering customers more scalability and deployment flexibility. Products supported now include Oracle 11g, EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus 8.3, Red Hat JBoss 4.2.2 and others. Compiere 3.1 continues its support for Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems, the Oracle 10g database, and Internet Explorer 6 and 7 and Firefox 2 browsers.

Compiere is an ERP solution that can be modified according to customer-specific needs without sacrificing future support and upgrades said Alain Cudet, managing director of dotBase Solutions Informatiques SA, a Compiere Gold Partner in Geneva, Switzerland.

“Using Compiere’s automated upgrade tools, we are able to quickly deploy the new Compiere ERP platform to our existing customers while preserving all of their business-specific customizations. As a result, customers will quickly deploy and use the new business analytics and functional capabilities in Compiere 3.1 to improve their operational efficiency,” concluded Cudet.
