LivingSocial to Open New Call Center in Tucson, Arizona

June 01, 2012

Tucson, Arizona is about to get a windfall of call center jobs thanks to daily deal and discount site (and Groupon competitor), LivingSocial. The company is reportedly opening a new call center in the city in July, and will be looking to hire a combination of customer service representatives, customer service supervisors and office managers.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, LivingSocial will be recruiting about 180 Tucson residents to work at the new call center. Though the company says it never discloses salaries, the pay offered to new hires will be “competitive” and the positions will come with benefits, according to Jake Maas, senior vice president of consumer businesses with LivingSocial, which is headquartered in Washington, DC and has offices in New York, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Tucson came out on top of the company's list of choices for the new facility, which is the company's first to be dedicated entirely to customer service, in part because the city has been one of LivingSocial's strongest deals markets since it was launched here in early 2011, Maas said.

In addition, LivingSocial was attracted to Tucson's large pool of customer service workers, its tech-savvy community and lower-cost real estate compared to other parts of the country, said company representatives. According to the Arizona Daily Star, no lease has yet been signed, but a deal is expected to close soon.

Maas told the newspaper that workers would be signing up with a company in the fast-moving tech world. “It's fun. It's entrepreneurial. You're on the cutting edge,” he said. “We love to hire folks who love to use our service.”
