Intermec CS40 Helps Delta Global Services Improve Customer Service

February 24, 2012

Intermec Inc.’s Intermec CS40 handheld mobile computer has been chosen by Delta Global Services or DGS for its daily processes at the Memphis International Airport or MEM. Strong 2D barcode scanning performance will be offered to DGS by the Intermec CS40, which looks and feels similar to a smartphone.

In a release, Tom Farmakis, cp of marketing & business development at DGS said, "In our business every second counts and the CS40 offers us the reliability and customer service we need for our fast-paced operations. The CS40's high performance scanning capabilities and overall reliability has already improved our efficiency 10 to 20 percent; because of this, we already have plans to deploy it at additional airports to support our growing operations."

Wheelchair assistance is offered by DGS agents across all three terminals and 98 gates at MEM. Passenger pick-up tasks can be now received wirelessly by DGS agents through the CS40s. These mobile computers allow DGS agents to scrutinize passenger boarding pass data and gate location. The AT&T network is used by the agents to report the pickups in real-time; after entering boarding pass and location information and storing the time when the pickup was requested, in the computer.

Passengers have to be provided wheelchair assistance within minutes of the request, as per the directive from U.S. Department of Transportation or DOT. In the event of failure to do so, fines worth several thousand dollars need to be paid. As per the U.S. DOT studies, approximately $3 million were paid across all the airports as fines in 2010.

Earl Thompson, svp of mobile solutions business at intermec said, "The Intermec CS40 continues to be a best-in-class option to support customer needs for increased productivity and exceptional field performance. Delta Global Services' choice of the CS40 will help to further advance their superior customer service initiatives as their operations continue to grow."
