Plexus, Wescast Sign Contracts for Plexus Online Implementation

April 08, 2008

Plexus Systems, vendor of the Plexus Online on-demand software for manufacturing, has announced it signed contracts with Wescast Industries, a supplier of cast exhaust manifolds for passenger cars and light trucks. Under the agreements Plexus will provide a global implementation of Plexus Online.

Plexus Online is expected to bring "continuity, flexibility and adaptability to Wescast's global operations," according to Plexus officials, who say the supplier wants "consistent and integrated business information throughout its organization, including manufacturing processes, engineering, sales" and other business processes.

Implementation will begin with the Wescast Asian Business Unit centered in Wuhan, China and one North American facility.

Ed Frackowiak, chairman and chief executive officer, Wescast Industries, said the SaaS deployment model meant "the ability to deploy system changes to meet our requirements in a matter of days and hours, rather than in the months-and-years timeframe."

The on- demand product features enterprise resource planning (ERP) functions such as accounting and finance modules, customer relationship management (CRM) features such as order entry and tracking and supply chain management (SCM) functions.

Last month Plexus officials announced ArcaTech Systems of Mebane, North Carolina is deploying Plexus Online.

The Plexus Online SaaS is intended to improve ArcaTech Systems' business processes, including sales/CRM, accounting, quality, production, supply chain (purchasing, receiving/shipping, inventory, supplier assessment) and customer service, according to Plexus officials.

With an implementation timeline targeted at the second quarter of 2008, the Plexus Online implementation is expected to help ArcaTech's U.S. operations integrate with offices in the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia and India. The 24/7 connectivity of on-demand "always on" Plexus Online will be used to let ArcaTech avoid upfront investments in hardware, infrastructure, support and the need for version releases.

Aubrey Meador, vice president of ArcaTech Systems, says the company has been using software as a service ERP systems for years.

In February Plexus named Anil Khanna its Senior Account Manager of the Western United States, responsible for the firm's Western region customers.

"Anil Khanna brings a long track record of selling and delivering large Enterprise Resource Planning software projects for manufacturing customers," said Thomas Mackey, Executive Vice President for Plexus.
