City of Chicago Picks Payment Manager Solution from The Active Network

March 25, 2008

The City of Chicago has picked The Active Network’s Payment Manager solution to provide integrated cashiering and payment processing for all the city’s daily payment transactions. The city will use the solution to streamline its payment collection process and provide its customers easy, expanded payment options through a broad range of customer service channels.

Bea Reyna-Hickey, director of revenue for the City of Chicago, said in a statement that active offers tremendous expertise in cashiering operations and proven success in providing cities with customized operating solutions to meet their specific needs.

According to Reyna-Hickey, these skills assured them of Active’s ability to understand the City of Chicago’s business and deliver a comprehensive enterprise solution.

The Active Network explained that more than $2 billion in payments will be processed each year by the company’s software, at more than 100 cashier terminals located in the city’s seven payment centers. Thanks to Payment Manager, Chicago’s revenue department will be able to manage all the daily payment transactions for each of its divisions through one system. This will help the city to lower operating costs.

With Active’s integrated cashiering, Chicago has a robust, proven solution to collect, process and track all payments. The solution will also provide the Revenue department accurate audit trails. Moreover, it will simplify reconciliation and cash flow.

Active’s Payment Manager will expand the city’s alternative payment service channels such as Internet, self-serve kiosk and pay-by telephone. This is expected to enhance Chicago’s customer service because the expansion of these additional service channels will increase access hours, help reduce in-person wait times for customers using traditional walk-in services and enable multiple payments to be processed in a single transaction with one receipt.

Alex Barnetson, senior vice president at The Active Network, noted that Active’s Payment Manager enables cities and counties to effectively centralize payment collections and financial transactions across their entire organizations.

Barnetson believes Chicago will benefit from Active’s cashiering solution by reducing operating costs and providing its citizens improved accessibility to new services and payment options.

The Active Network delivers integrated technology solutions, marketing services and online media properties that enable and encourage participation in activities and events.
The company recently signed on to provide online registration for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) memberships, conventions and 85 ITA administered college tennis tournaments. Active will also rebuild ITA’s Web site, www.itatennis.com.
