Aquantia Validates World's First Quad 10GBASE-T Solution

May 11, 2009

Aquantia, which develops energy efficient 10GBASE-T solutions, has validated its 40nm Quad 10GBASE-T PHY, which the company claims as the first of its kind.

This technology, according to company officials, will meet the conflicting demands in the data center space – to reduce power and increase port density while delivering data transfer speeds of 10 Gbits/s.

Aquantia’s 40nm Quad 10GBASE-T PHY reduces power by more than half per port and integrates four ports in a single chip. This critical power, density and cost performance levels were long awaited by server, switch and storage equipment manufacturers for volume deployment in the data center ecosystem, Aquantia officials said.

“IT Data Center and distributed network managers need universal, scalable and affordable high-speed copper connectivity, to match the growing dominance of 10GE servers and switches in their networks,” said Faraj Aalaei, president and CEO, Aquantia, in a statement.

“As 10GBASE-T is becoming the endorsed, mainstream interconnect standard of top-tier switching and server vendors, we believe the combination of features, low power consumption, product density and low cost will drive the massive deployment of 10GBASE-T,” Aalaei said.

Aquantia has announced a complete Quad 10GBASE-T product family ranging from single to quad-port devices.

Aquantia’s quad port 10GBASE-T PHYs provide the low power and high density to enable 48 port switches and line cards. Dual port 10GBASE-T PHYs provide the low power demanded by NICs and LOM. The single port member of Aquantia’s high density family provides an upgrade path to lower power for platforms based on the 1st generation AQ1002.

These products offer low 2W/port power for up to 10m (Data Center mode) with 3.5W/port at 100m, officials said. Flexible system interfaces support XFI / RXAUI / XAUI & SGMII. A pass-through option for XFI enables dual media applications. Multi-rate capability are supported - 10G/1G/100M. These products are IEEE 802.3an compliant.

Early customer samples of 10GBASE-T product line will be available in the second half of 2009. Aquantia is now shipping AQ1002 to major OEM customers.

Aquantia will demonstrate its 10GBASE-T product line at Interop Las Vegas 2009, May 17 to May 21.
