Xerox Bringing 1,000+ Call Center, Other Jobs to Kentucky

September 18, 2014

When it comes to the call center world, the growing trend for the market is for companies to return to the United States. Xerox is just one of the companies moving its call center operations back to the U.S. and Lexington, Ky., in particular. The firm is bringing both temporary and permanent jobs to the city and says there will be a total of more than 1,200 workers hired.

The new staffers will be added to more than 2,500 people already working for Xerox in Lexington. A company spokesman, Chris Gilligan, said the company will be looking at more than 3,000 people when the new hires are brought aboard. The company is already the city of Lexington’s sixth-largest employer. The 400 regular full time employees that are going to be included in the 1,200 could actually make Xerox the second-biggest employer in town.

The 800 other positions will be full-time workers but will also be seasonal employees, operators working to support the annual open enrollment for healthcare providers. The state government is clearly happy about Xerox bringing the jobs to Lexington with Gov. Steve Beshear saying the hirings are good news for the company as well as for Kentuckians, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

The call center work will be serving several different companies in a wide variety of industries, according to a Xerox news release. But call center operators aren’t the only jobs the company is looking to fill. There will also be about 50 data entry workers among those getting new jobs. The new hires will be spaced out over three different offices. Those looking for new jobs will be able to walk into one of the three locations and apply and perhaps even interview right off the bat. By doing this, the company will be able to move quickly in filling the jobs, the company said.
