Wisconsin Making Call Center Business Worthwhile for SPI Global

April 21, 2014

The call center business market is one that has been getting all the more popular over the last few months. That has never been more obvious in Madison, Wis., where the state has just announced it will be giving a Philippines-based outsourcing company more than half a million dollars in order to expand a local call center. In exchange for incentives that will total $575,000 the company has said it will add as many as 286 jobs over the next three years. These jobs are also pledged to be well paying and will see each new employee making more than $11 an hour.

SPI Global Madison, known as Laserwords in some circles has scored a number of contracts with firms such as Dish Network. This is actually the first call center that SPI Global has opened in the United States. The company already has a number of different centers around the world, including in India, China, Vietnam and the Philippines.

The company is slated to receive tax credits that will total more than $375,000 from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. and another grant from the Department of Workforce Development that will fall just shy of $200,000. These grants are an attempt by Wisconsin to become more favorable to other call centers. Some cities have managed to become havens for the call center market.

As part of the agreement, Laserwords has also pledged to spend around $1.2 million in order to remodel the 10,000 square foot space that the call center currently works in. The upgrades will allow for added employees and training spaces. Facility improvements could include some upgrades to the technology the call center. With the changing desires of call center customers in the 21st century, companies like Laserwords are trying to stay ahead of the curve.

Call centers aren’t the only business that SPI Global works in. The company has more than 19,000 employees spread out in more than 30 offices around the globe.
