Wheelings & Dealings: Gartner Announces Acquisition of Software Advice

March 13, 2014

Gartner, Inc., a provider of research and analysis of the global information technology industry, has acquired Software Advice, Inc., a privately-held company.

Software Advice helps buyers choose the right software. As a trusted resource, the company’s website offers detailed reviews, comparisons, and research to assist organizations in finding products that best fit their current and future needs.

The company has a team of software experts who conduct free telephone consultations with each buyer to shortlist systems best suited to their company’s specific requirements.

The company has helped more than 180,000 people choose the right software for their organizations.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Software Advice employs a team of approximately 100, as well as an engineering team in Cordoba, Argentina.

According to the Gartner website, since the company went public in 1993, it has made more than 32 acquisitions and investments. These businesses, people, and products have broadened the company’s comprehensive suite of product solutions to business and IT professionals worldwide.

The company says that the acquisitions must meet at least one or several criteria before being considered-Products and services focus on decisions made by business or IT professionals: that is, they must be complementary, enhance or improve the company’s core product lines; The growth rate of the business considered must be equal to, exceed or be expected to equal in the near-term the company’s overall growth rate; The business adds local content or expertise in markets outside the United States; and operations are profitable and add or are neutral to corporate earnings per share in the near-term.

Earlier in December, Gartner had announced that it has increased its presence in Turkey by transitioning to a direct sales channel.

As part of the company’s business expansion strategy for the region, Gartner will now provide dedicated client management and business development functions.

Establishing a direct sales organization is designed to enhance personalized service to Gartner’s growing client base in Turkey, and is in line with the company’s international strategy to expand its operations in high growth regions.
