Avaya to Provide Technological Support for NORAD Tracks Santa Program

Avaya (News - Alert) Government Solutions announced that the company’s technology will support this year’s NORAD Tracks Santa program by deploying Avaya Aura contact center solution. Avaya Aura will route the calls made to NORAD Tracks Santa hotline to a volunteer who will provide details to the caller about Santa’s location. The Avaya solution was rigorously tested and certified for deployment by Department of Defense Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC).

In a release, William Laurie, Vice President of Department of Defense Programs at Avaya Government Solutions, said “Children give new meaning to the idea of 'precious customers.' We know, though, that Santa is up to the task -- especially with NORAD watching to make certain he has a safe journey. Children everywhere can sleep soundly, knowing the most capable people and the best technology are helping Santa on his way.”

NORAD Tracks Santa is an initiative by North American Aerospace Defense Command, which helps Santa to make a safe journey and also lets eagerly waiting children know Santa’s whereabouts. NORAD employs cutting edge technology powered by Avaya solutions to follow Santa on his mission by monitoring data from radar, satellites and Santa Cams strategically positioned across the globe.

NORAD Tracks Santa hotline received around 114,000 calls from children in 2012 during the 23 hours of its operation. This year the hotline will be manned by nearly 1,250 volunteers helping NORAD successfully carry out the initiative. The hotline is usually operational from 2 am on December 24 until 3 am on December 25 in line with the Santa Claus fable which says Santa travels on the Christmas Eve to deliver gifts to children across the world.
