Sitel UK Offers Equality Advisory and Support Service to Prevent Discrimination

June 17, 2013

Discrimination of any kind is illegal, but unfortunately it still exists. In order to help common public to deal with the issues of discrimination in all walks of life, Sitel UK, an expert in outsourced customer contact solutions, was commissioned in October 2012 to provide the new Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

This service was set up by the government to offer advice and support to members of the public who have experienced discrimination.

The company has achieved the contract following a thorough procurement process performed under EU rules.

Helen Grant, the Minister for Women and Equalities, visited the advice center at Stratford-Upon-Avon on Thursday, June 13, where she met with the team of highly trained advisors providing advice, information and support to individuals across England, Scotland and Wales on discrimination issues.

Some figures gathered from some studies show that 63 percent of enquiries received by the service relate to disability; 15 percent of enquiries relate to race, and 5 percent included human rights related issues.

Grant commented, “Discrimination in any form is unacceptable, but sadly we know it does exist. That’s why it’s vital that anyone experiencing unfair treatment can access the right help and support to resolve issues quickly.”

Joe Doyle, marketing director for Sitel UK, commented in a statement, “We are delighted to be delivering the EASS and providing support to victims of discrimination when they need help understanding their rights, and assistance in dealing with complex and sensitive issues. Our approach from day one has been to work with key partners from the voluntary and not for profit sector, such as Disability Rights UK and Law Centres. This gives us a depth of knowledge and links to other community and support organizations, enabling us to provide information on complex areas of legislation and support within a network of partner organizations.”
