Contact Management Solutions Company Pays Employees to Go on Vacation

July 16, 2012

You may have never heard of Denver-based software company FullContact, which offers contact management solutions, but chances are...you'll want to work there.

What's the catch? Well, they're not really “catches,” but they are rules.

For starters, employees must completely go off the technology grid. This means they must disengage from e-mail, text messaging, phone calls, blogging, social networking or Tweeting. Resulting in the second rule, that employees are not allowed to do any work while on their trip. Finally, employees must actually go on a real trip and not just lurk in a hammock in the back yard. FullContact CEO, Bart Lorang says he believes all his employees deserve a nice vacation, and he chose the $7,500 dollar amount because he believes it is enough for a family of four to take a trip to Mexico for a week, according to FoxNews.com.

“We felt that everyone should have the opportunity to take a nice vacation without constantly worrying about how much money they’re spending while on vacation,” wrote Lorang in a recent blog post.

FullContact is one of many tech companies who attract high quality employees with extravagant perks. Google, for example, offers on-site healthcare and pays for college degrees. At Facebook, employees with new babies receive $4,000 in what's called “baby cash.”

So, back to disengaging from the world: it sounds easy to do, right? Simply disconnect from work and the digital grid? Turns out, this isn't so easy for the average American worker, who continually checks into work even while on vacation. Even Lorang says he has trouble following his own rules.
