TruGreen Announces Plan to Hire 175 More Employees

January 20, 2012

TruGreen, a lawn care company based in Memphis, Tenn., is planning to hire an additional 175 employees –including sales personnel, supervisors and managers –to help stock its new contact center in the Netpark office campus in Tampa.

TruGreen serves more than 2.5 million residential and commercial customers in the U.S., through a network of 250 branch locations. TruGreen provides ongoing lawn care services that include fertilization, healthy lawn analysis, weed control, disease control, and aeration and seeding – all while providing unlimited service calls.

The company is hoping to fill two types of positions: seasonal and permanent. Center Director Jeff Walter said the new operation will help handle incoming calls relating to customer service questions and be responsible for all of the online Web inquiries the company receives.

TruGreen searched various staffing centers throughout the United States and ended up going with Tampa because it was “very high on our list,” according to Walter. He added that he is working with Florida to see if TruGreen will be able to offer the ailing state some employee tax-incentive plans before they hire the employees. He was mum on the details, however, and would only say “there may be something in the works.”

Walter didn’t comment on how soon the company is looking to hire the new employees, the details of their positions, or the pay they would receive. Although, due to Tampa’s current unemployment rate, it doesn’t seem the city will mind some new job opportunities.

The United States Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) reported that the unemployment rate for Tampa fell 0.3 percentage points back in November to 10.3 percent. The unemployment rate in Tampa has not fallen too much from their highest peak of 12.4 percent back in November of 2010.

Tampa is trying to get its unemployed back to work using call centers as its main source of employment. Currently, Tampa has deals with OneTouch Direct, USAA, and Humana, which would add more than 1,300 local jobs to the region.

TruGree representatives will be available at a job fair on Jan. 28 beginning their first 30-minute session at 10 a.m. with a second session beginning at 2 p.m. at the Netpark office campus, located at the junction of 56th Street and East Hillsborough Avenue. Representatives will be on-hand to answer any employment questions, hold on the spot interviews, and collect resumes from interested residents.
