Accenture Sues Guidewire for Patent Infringement

December 20, 2007

Accenture Ltd, a provider of management consulting, technology services and outsourcing, said it has filed a patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation lawsuit against Guidewire Software in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

Guidewire Software Inc. is a vendor of technology solutions for property, casualty and workers’ compensation insurers.

Accenture has alleged the patent violation by Guidewire of an insurance claims management technology indicating that Guidewire "misappropriated Accenture trade secrets relating to the design, coding and implementation of the claims management technology Accenture developed and patented."

In its initial response, Guidewire has announced that Accenture has not notified the company of any concerns regarding infringement or misappropriation. Guidewire also cites its ignorance of the patent mentioned in Accenture’s press release. The company will clarify its stand as soon as it receives a formal complaint from Accenture.

“Guidewire did not and would not misappropriate trade secrets or willfully infringe on any patents,” said John Raguin, chief executive officer, Guidewire Software. “We conduct our business with the utmost integrity. We will review the details of the allegations and respond in the appropriate manner.”
